Many donor conceived people and parents (in The Netherlands) do not know how to request data from the donor and more. After all, there is no manual of what you can do to request data. In this post I am going to share my experience with data on questions and give tips.
When I was about 9/10 years old I had bought a laptop and I went googling for donor child ... My mothers had already told me about it, but what I found out then I did not know. I came to the website kidinformatie.com and also the government website stichting donorgegevens kunstmatige bevruchting (artificial fertilization donor data foundation). I saw that as a donor conceived person I was entitled to apply for a donorpaper on my 12th birthday and to meet my donor on my 16th birthday. I also found out that my parents were actually allowed to apply for a donorpaper at the beginning of getting children.
Perhaps an idea for parents, if they think: my children would want t a donorpaper sooner, then you can request this at the hospital itself or by email from the hospital of the insemination. My experience is that I first applied for my donorpaper it went wrong. When I was 12. I went to the AMC for the first time. (Hospital where I was conceived) I thought it was a great experience there. We met 1 of my mothers their doctors assistant. She would find it and send the donorpaper to me she said. That had not happened and then after a year I went back and it was sent by a doctor's assistant to a small hallway that ended at a desk in the clinic. Behind it was a large closet with a lot of folders. But my donorpaper was not in there, it was in the large basement that was locked up. After 2 weeks it was delivered to my home. I couldn't had more my luck. But I also got a donorpaper once when I requested to meet my donor, but I was to young. It was also a little bit different from the one I already had. But I'll tell you more about that in my next post.
I also know how many children were conceived by the donor's sperm. I would not ask this until your child is of the appropriate age or receive the donorpaper..
And now about the experience I know the most about because I'm working on it now. Meeting my donor ... If you want to meet your donor, you can request this when you are 16 years old. Fortunately I did that right on my birthday because it will be a long time before I can meet my donor. October 5 I submitted the application. November 7th I received a letter that they have sent a letter to the donor about my request to meet him. That can take about 4 to 6 weeks for him to answer. And then it will take another month until Fiom contacts you for an initial interview and then they also have a interview with the donor. This all applies if you are from a ID release donor. And oh yes, not to forget to apply to meet the donor you must have an original birth certificate that you must request from your municipality. I hope I helped someone with this. If it is only would be 1 child or 1 parent.
Lots of love,
Joëlle
