Blood, sperm and tears. 3 words of which you might think: ''What is this about again?'' For me that is so clear. If you've read this piece of mine, you might too. Blood, sper and tears. I came up with it while listening to the song ''bloed, zweet en tranen (blood, sweat and tears) by André Hazes. Something typical Dutch music for my family. I thought then: ''I don't know how but I'm going to use this as a title for one of my blog posts.'' And now I'm sitting here, behind my laptop with an idea. My father's sperm made him my relative. This search has brought me enough tears as well. In good and bad times. That is why I have rewritten the lyrics of André Hazes' song from the point of view of me as a donor conceived person.
Blood, sperm and tears
He has done something right, but also done something so wrong.
When I look back in time.
A smile with tears, that's how I feel today.
I got a taste of what I thought was normal, but so much family is still unknown.
With blood sperm and tears, he said, I wanted to help couples
With blood sperm and tears,
He said children, hi children, the door is open
I have known happiness but also sorrow,
How many times have I bumped my head.
But still I'm not happy with all I've got,
When you go looking, you have to see who wants to know you.
With blood sperm and tears, he said, I wanted to help couples
With blood sperm and tears,
He said children, hi children, I am open to contact
I've really seen it
No I'm not hungry.
It seems crazy that I miss people I don't know at all
I'm going to find them
Yes really find.
As a human being I also have rights, oh shit now
With blood sperm and tears, the clinic said you have no rights
With blood sperm and tears,
He said children, hi children, this is who I am
With blood sperm and tears, he said, I'm open to contact
With blood sperm and tears,
He said children, hi children, I am there when you need me.
